Has anyone used the IN72 yet? I'm trying to figure out why it's only a 480 piece when the unit that it replaced (5000) was 720 native.

Anything else that I should be considering in that price range?

The 5000 was a LCD projector the IN72 is a DLP Projector

IN76 a 720P DLP replaced the SP5000. The IN72 replaced the SP4805 (both 480DLP) - and two months later it is selling about the same price as the two year old SP4805.

Custom installers can do the IN74EX which is the in-between 576P DLP and carrys full two year warranty. Supposed to be the upsell from the 480P - but the 720P is already being sold online at the same price.

All this was covered at the mandatory new line training for dealers.

There is no better 480P box IMPO.

The MitsuHC3000 is a good 720P box - but only if you are good at the ISF calibration - it badly needs it - but it measures better than anything once you do. BestBuy has it if you want to "borrow" it.

All of that makes sense except a year ago, you could sell a 720P projector (SP5000) for $1299 SRP, and the replacement 720P projector is $2999 SRP?

Do the IN 72, 74 and 76 all look superior to the 5000?

LCD vs. DLP - of course the DLP are better. I have never seen an equivalent resolution LCD originally priced the same as DLP - and they certainly would if they thought they could get that (market based not manufacturing based pricing). OK maybe the Epson is up there.

The original SP5000 MSRP was $2K - and it was quickly discounted by Infocus to move it out. It did not conform to ScreenPlay design standard - having been designed overseas (EU I think) rather than Wilsonville. And its LCD competitors where killing it - even though calibrated it was brighter. Side by side I think the SP4805 looked better than the SP5000 - despite the higher resolution. Even my AVAD rep steered me clear of it (as he did the TV they made).

At one point when I was in CostCo they had the SP4805 and SP5000 at the same price (lower than your cost of course!) on closeout. I seem to recall the SP5000 dropped the MSRP as well to dang close to the SP4805 last I looked - so you really are comparing closeout MSRP to intro MSRP (something Infocus loves to do to keep stuff moving)

So $2K->$3K for a much better DLP picture at 720P was their pricing thinking. No doubt it will drop to $2K shortly - TVA already advertises that on their click to buy (since most of the competition was already fallen to there). And when it is the IN76es time to closeout no doubt the MSRP will be $1.3K. The time to closeout pricing seems to cycle faster every year (or should I say quarter!)

Your $2K spot is their 576P - again the thinking is the picture is better than the SP5000 was despite it being ED.

They had a hard time selling the 5000, because people have been used to InFocus being a DLP projector company in the HT arena.

I put one into a friend's training room for his HVAC company... It works fine for PowerPoint, Excel, and poorly produced manufacturer training videos.

Sales were so slow that they created a $300 rebate for the 5000 for several months, and this was well after the 72, 74, and 76 were announced.

The 76 looks better than the 7205 in some ways, and should DEFINITELY be considered a comparable projector to the 7205.... and the 76 is $1K less than the 7205.

Son't get hung up on comparing it to the 5000 to any of the new DLPs, the 5000 is not in the same league.

There is a rebate now on the IN72 for $300 (so same price as SP5000)- not sure why since it just came out. I guess people are just hyped for HD now. I thought it was even better than the SP4805 - they really tweaked the design.

The Infocus rep came out and checked out my latest yesterday - 11'x6' widescreen and SP7210 - he said he had never actually seen it on a screen that big! Most impressive at that size with some XBOX360 on it. He had just came from the local security wiring guys theater(s) at the parade home show - I wanted to make sure to properly set the stage so he would be totally blown away - and he was!

We had a sports bar that had a 3805 (3802 maybe?) tha got dropped by one of their employees while changing a bulb. We ended up replacing it with a 5000. They were actually happier with is due to the increased brightness over the 3805 (2?) with so much ambient light, it wasnt really an environment where they could really notice the better PQ of the DLP.

SP4805 you mean!

The IN72 is brighter than the SP4805 - but still not as bright as the SP5000. The IN76 is rated the same brightness as the SP5000 but I am not sure how much of that is using the white peaking control on the DLP which LCD does not have.

I own a 5000 personally (cuz it was so cheap), and I really can't complain too much about it **FOR THE PRICE POINT**. That having been said, I've got IN76's spec'ed on 2 seperate upcoming jobs. I'll let you know how they go.

I am awaiting a IN72 from AVAD as a replacement projector for a PANNY AE100 that took a sheet. I will let you knwo how it looks next week, hopefully. The $300 rebate was a instant closer for the sale.

I just got a call today on dong a subdivision clubhouse. Builder wants a dedicated HT room, and a surround/GP purpose room.

Builder wants projo's in both rooms, with the GP room being used more for pc generated source material (powerpoint, etc) than HT. Although there will probably be some "movie night" done in the GP room (a rental room).

I was planning on recommending the IN72 for the HT room and possibly the IN32 for the GP room.

I see in the specs where the IN32 calls for a VESA to component or M1 to component cable. Never saw that before. What's the deal with that?

Any opinions on what I might be better off using in the GP room? A room that may have a tad too much ambient light?

Need to have a plan by next Wednesday, so I can get the design/proposal in order.

Also looking for a low bucks wall control for the "system". Maybe just use a Niles Intellipad or something of that sort?

Damn, I'm always the last to know.

How did you all find out about the rebates? I'm on InFocus' email list, am listed as a dealer on their site, and yet I have to come here to find out that there's rebates?

Rick? Where are you? Did you know about this?

I found out on AVS nobody was talking about IN72s all of a sudden they were! Seems like both AVAD and Infocus did not get my new email into their systems as I have not heard any official news about it. Make sure you are on that dealer list on the rebate page - as it is a third party processor that is supposed to strictly follow the rules no exceptions. Supposedly the FTC has said sellers are responsible for promised third party rebates - they can come back to you for it now if they get screwed! This is why the chain stores are dropping the mail-in rebate promotions and going back to regular sales - they don't want to be held accountable. I have a $1K rebate due to customer this week - he is anxious and so am I!

I remember they had a SP4805 rebate for a while that they kept quiet as it was just for us to compete with the CostCo deal if the customer wanted the free screen/cable. Of course CostCo had the screen&projector at our price for the projector and it was a checkout not mail-in deal. Of course was not long before everybody was doing that deal online! I still sold everyone a screen anyways - and had them sell the freebie on FleaBay - especially the SVideo cable - who uses those anymore!
