"Cisco said Tuesday it will shut down its Flip pocket camcorder operation, just two years after acquiring the one-time disruptive camcorder trendsetter, then called Pure Digital Technology."

This sucks. Those are awesome.

I am linking Cisco's press release (http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Cisco-Restructures-Consumer-Business-NASDAQ-CSCO-1426209.htm), as well as the article from TechCrunch (http://techcrunch.com/2011/04/12/cisco-to-shut-down-flip-video-business-will-give-pink-slips-to-550-employees/).

It seems odd to go out of a category when you make the undisputed best product IN that category.
I guess it's not rare, considering that Pioneer Elite & Fujitsu shared the same strategy. :)

Probably losing sales due to iPhone and Android devices with HD video capabilities. The problem though is from what Ive seen, the Flip has much better PQ than the phones.

I just got my wife one for Christmas a year ago. Cool little device.

There is a big time shakeup going on at Cisco.
3 straight underperforming qtrs and Chambers has decided enough is enough.
Talking to my friends @ Cisco they are all wondering when the next shoe will drop. Looks like they will be pulling out of a number of markets, regardless of position, so it's going to be interesting. I wonder if UMI is next.
