Today's profile will be on Triad Speakers.
I had a chance to chat with Paul Scarpelli of Triad Speakers and pose the list of questions to him.

So here goes:

Rick Murphy, IntegrationPros:
First question: How long has the company been in business?

Paul Scarpelli, Triad Speakers:
Triad has been in business since 1981, founded in Aspen, Colorado.
---
Rick:
2): Where are the locations of your production facilities?

Paul:
Portland, Oregon.
---
Rick:
3) How many people are employed in total? (feel free to include historical figures from the company's most successful times if you are comfortable)

Paul:
We have 38 full-time employees and 4 specialized part-timers.

Due to the economic turndown, and much greater efficiency due to Lean techniques, we are operating with half the employees we had in 2007.
----
Rick:
4) What percentage of the SKUs in your product offering are produced in North America at some level?

Paul:
Out of approximately 110 products, including amplifiers, round ceiling speakers, DesignerSeries invisible speakers (made in Great Britain), and the entire rest of the line, 22 products are imported.

That would come out to 80% manufactured in America, but if we figure "dollar amount," it's closer to 83%, because a large percentage of the imported products (round speakers, OmniSubs, etc.) are less costly.
---
Rick:
5) In the spirit of the American Automobile Labeling Act, requiring automakers to report what percent of the parts by value in any given model hail from both the United States and Canada. What is the rough percentage of N. American content of the components and materials of your products?

Paul:
Since our early days, we used drivers imported from Denmark, considered among the best in the world. Companies included Seas, Vifa, Scan-Speak, Peerless, etc. We still use many of these brands, and a large percentage still come from Europe, but these companies are now having their value-priced drivers manufactured in Asia.

Our real wood veneers come from all over the world, but the bulk of our manufacturing materials are from the United States.

We are always trying to bring as much manufacturing back in-house as possible.
