It looks like LG has taken a feature from commercial panels and 'consumerized' it by using it to connect to web-based resources (like e-commerce sites, YouTube, etc.) to provide the next step in interactive TV.

LG Electronics this week announced the launch of the LG PenTouch TV, which allows users to use a stylus to point at products on TV and connect to the Internet. The products will be sold through specialty retailers.

There are three PenTouch models at launch, one 50-inch and two 60-inch classes. The top-of-the-line, 60-inch 3D-capable 60PZ850 will retail for $2,199.

"Touch displays have become the norm in mobile phones and tablets, but remain almost unheard of in TVs," Jay Vandenbree, senior vice president, home entertainment for LG in the U.S., said as part of the announcement.

"The PenTouch TV brings all the excitement of touch displays, computers and the Internet to the world of television, with functions and programs that are great fun and really educational. Families, in particular, will have more than ever to enjoy on LG PenTouch TV plasma screens."

I have a wand remote that controls the cursor on the V5500 panel. Not sure if this is the same thing.
