There was an article in CEPro in January about this. Crestron is pushing for everything to get Crestron inside. According to the article I would expect to potentially see a large release of products with it between now and Cedia.

It will certainly lower costs of integration if chip sets containing protocols are installed by manufacturers. C4 has done this on a whole batch of products.

This is for the commercial market and so based on ubiquity of network protocols. In residential you will know this is serious when chipsets supporting wireless communications are embedded by manufacturers. Lutron has done this for themselves in QS shades. Somfy going to compete? Machoshade installed C4 com chips in their products. The question will be if marketing permits this sort of thing with consumer electronics. Big reason this is not permitted is manufacturers want to force you to buy all their electronics, from reeivers though displays. They don't want you to be able to mix and match. Commercial is very different animal. BENQ has roomview embedded even if it lacked a power on command.
