Triad Speakers Launches First Outdoor Loudspeaker Line; Available in Infinite Color Options

Two 2-way models are available, one featuring a 6.5-inch driver, the other a 5.25-inch. Each is a solid performer. Unique to the category is that Triad’s Portland, Oregon factory will paint the speakers any desired color, including custom paint-matching. Triad also plans to unveil other creative outdoor solutions at the 2016 CEDIA Expo.

Portland, OR — August 17, 2016 — This month Triad Speakers, Inc. began shipping its Outdoor Series loudspeakers. Two 2-way designs are available: the 6.5-inch driver model # OD26 ($600 MSRP pair) and the 5.25-inch OD25 ($400 MSRP pair). Each incorporates carbon fiber drivers and titanium tweeters. While standard in black or white, Triad will paint the speakers any color desired, including custom-matching (slight upcharge). According to the company, no other brand offers color options for outdoor speakers beyond white or black.

Aptly capable of handling from 25-150 watts, the OD26 and OD25 are well-suited to serve residential and light commercial settings. The speaker enclosures are weather-resistant and durable, yet lightweight. Installation is further made easy by way of a provided adjustable bracket which neatly attaches to all surfaces (under eaves, to posts, etc.). Constructed of anti-corroding aluminum alloy, Triad’s Acoustiperf speaker grill can also be painted.

“So often we see installations of outdoor speakers that because of their limited color options look just plain clumsy and even obtrusive in their settings,” says Triad Speakers’ Director of Marketing Paul Teixeira. “In typical Triad fashion, the goal with our Outdoor Series was to deliver a solution that provides robust sound while completely blending with the décor.” 5980

Teixeira hints of other creative outdoor loudspeaker designs from Triad to be unveiled at the 2016 CEDIA Expo (booth 4712) along with the Outdoor Series.

It's about time!

But I see a concern with these already. Most all Triad speakers require the use of a subwoofer, which was a HUGE problem with doing mulit-room audio for a long time with Triad. Then (several years ago now) they had the new in-ceiling offerings, which could be played full range, and things were better.
I'm seeing the same design issues with these new outdoor speakers. They seem to be modeled after in-room Omni's and because of that, don't seem to do any low frequency reproduction. That would be a deal killer right there - No Sale! Since 90% of installs involving these types of speakers, will not have the option of installing a subwoofer - not that Triad even has an outdoor sub available to go with it.

Then there is the sensitivity rating. Same again as the in-room. Outdoor speakers usually tend to be more efficient than this.

Obviously need to get some for evaluation, I have no doubt they sound good from the mid-bass to the highs. But initially, I have concerns for the application of these.
Thoughts?

Brad thanks for your note! Not to fret! As we hinted at in today's release, Triad will be unveiling "other" creative new outdoor solutions at 2016 CEDIA Expo next month. You'll be very happy!

Good to here.
Might be a moot point for me thou. I got a new Triad rep/distributor a few years ago, they really suck and dropped the ball on me. Haven't sold any Triad in the last few years because of that.
I do love me some Triad speakers thou - or did :(

I am confused by your evaluation. You say these outdoor speakers need a sub but how is that any different from something like the SnapAV outdoor speakers, etc. The Triad 6.5" are rated down to 65 Hz and the Snap 6.5" are the same. Sensitivity they are both rated at 86 dB. While all of these wall mount outdoor speakers would benefit from a sub I don't see a difference comparing these to other plastic molded speakers.

I would be interested in knowing what you are comparing these to that have a better low frequency response without using a sub.

Experience with each.
It usually takes a good bit of power to get sound out of a Triad speaker (compared to cheaper brands). This can be said for most better quality speakers. When it comes to outdoor speakers however, sensitivity/efficiency usually takes a stronger roll - as well as a stronger mid-bass & lower presence, to compensate for lack of boundry loading (in small room acoustics).
Any outdoor speaker is going to benefit from a subwoofer, that is a given. But some do a lot better job at reproducing the full spectrum than others (usually at a higher price and larger speaker). Some do it by over enhancing the low-end, which of course has a negative impact on sound quality. I think Snap could fall into that category but it is also what people want to hear - and when you can't get a sub in the system and it has to be cheap .... Well use some Boston Voyager 7's :)
Or Snap if the customer can't afford anything else.

You can't compare specs from 1 manufacture to the next. It is near useless and can deviate by a lot, depending on how they went about obtaining the numbers. Frequency response is only meaningful with the proper dB variation & plotted response curve. Neither of which Snap or Triad publish.

Every speaker sounds a little different. I honestly can't stand the sound of the cheap Niles outdoor speakers - I think they are junk. The high-end ones are much better, but the price!!!

The Russound outdoor speakers from many years ago, where a good sound for the money and had a pretty good full range to them. The Outback series that replaced them however are shit.

And Yamaha (of all people) had a good outdoor sounding speaker, that did a pretty good full range - about 15 years ago. Not since then. Although I haven't heard any of the new ones in the last 5 years - I'm not optimistic.

Then there are the JBL Control series. Awesome for some PA and loud systems.

The list goes on & on. Lots of good outdoor speakers (specific for what you want to achieve) and a lot of crappy ones.

Anyway... really want to hear these new Triad outdoor speakers. My hopes are high.
