That's hilarious.

What's the practical use for a Tivo power command anyway?

I used to use 'guide','clear' to get to live TV... I'm pretty sure that will still work.

Well, in my own system... Hy HD TiVo runs about 4-5 degrees cooler when in standby. Plus I don't like the lights on when the system's off (open style shelf rack).

So I have my TiVo turn on and off with my power On & Off macros. But the On macro takes it to TiVo menu, and the Off macro requires 3 commands (Tivo menu, channel down, arrow right). Anything to lesson the amount of macro commands would be nice.

My Tivo runs very hot, so I like to keep it off as well.

My power off macro consists of about 8 steps however, and doesnt always take.....

Tivo.. arrow down (6) times... select (for standby)

Brad's idea of Channel Down (which in this context acts as a 'page down' command) is good. I just tried it on mine, and it seems to be reliable, no matter how many extra lines TiVo adds to the screen.

I needed the guide/clear option on the Elite DVDR/TiVo unit because I needed to reliably switch from DVD (player) mode to TiVo mode with a macro. "DVD/Play" worked for getting to the DVD menu reliably, and "Guide/Clear" worked every time to get to a Live TV picture, even when playing a DVD.

a 'bedroom service call', huh...

is that any relation to a 'booty call'?

You know there's a discrete command for standby right? There isn't one for on per se, but using the Live TV or Tivo command should turn it back on.

Well then I would LOVE to find it. Sure would be more stable in macros. Im assumimng Im not the only one either.

Command 58 - pretty much the only code that's not on the remotes

For Tivo ID 0 (All Tivos)

One Caveat - I think it only works for series 2 Tivos so it may not work with DirecTivos - I haven't tried.

Am I missing something? If the TIVO is turned off, or put into standby, will it still record? If it won't, turning it off defeats the purpose of having it. I have always had my DirecTivo (SAT-T60) on. 6 Years in June. It finally took a crap and was replaced. Anyway, my main questionis will it stil record if turned off?
