Customer has 50" plasma; wants a cabinet that will hold it and raise it when used. Any links or pointers would be appreciated.

Chief makes a motorized lift. (no cabinets though) We were designing one to be built into a dresser untill the customer scrapped it. We use them for all our tv mounts now.

Why avoid Inca. Never used one before and i'm on a job where the cabinet designer said thats whats going in.

Am I screwed?

Even Jeff Hoover, past pres. of CEDIA has badmouthed Inca for their problems and lack of support after the sale.

Your not screwed, but your cabinet guy might be, of course it will end up your fault if things do go wrong, so be prepared. I would make sure cabinet guy shows me it working, a number of times, before I start installing.

I don't know anything about these folks, other than they exist.
Saw them guys at the Toronto CEDIA.

Eric at Electro-kinetics has been top notch. I've called him on a job I inherited from before the computer age. A gigantic wood panel triptych was making a little bit too much noise as it went up and down. Anyhow, Eric
was able to go into the archives and find photos of the exact unit I was working on, provide parts, and get me fixed with no problem.

Similar situation with an Inca lift, except the failure was really bad: totally wobbly and vibrating plasma lift. They insisted it had been installed wrong, has to be precisely level etc. We kludged a bunch of stabilizing hardware but by the time we were ready to test, the motor died (and no, we were not cycling it up and down nore than a couple of times an hour!). They could never even tell me what unit I was looking at.

I spent some serious money replacing a 60" plasma that fell 7 feet down into a hole in the ground when a floor mount inca lift i bought had the frikin motor give out. Inca blamed it on their motor manufacturer and offered to fix the lift "at no charge". When I asked them who was going to pay for the TV, there response was "we don't cover collaterall damage". I still have my lawyer dealing with that one.

Stay away at all costs!!!

To say that inca sucks is like saying the sun is bright.

This is a small outfit in FLA that makes boat rated lifts. Good guys and easy to work with. One problem I have found with some plasmas is that on turn on they draw tons of current, then for a short moment they draw none at all, then they settle down and draw a normal amount of current. The result is a current sensor will fire for a moment, then turn off, then turn back on. The lift will go up about an inch, reverse for a moment, then continue up. I have wound up using a time dely type relay to keep the lift heading in the correct direction. Like one of these.

Motivated are great guys who I have worked with on a few occasions and even been inside the shop looking at some prototype lifts. Never had a problem with one of thier lifts when we used them.

---

That said I would make a point to call them as right now I am sure they have had some damage to the place as they were in some of the heavier parts of the storm.

We put a 34" Sony Grand Vega HD tube in an Inca and the only issue is that the dipshit cabinet guys spec'd the RF garage door style remote.

That RF controller has terrible reliability, they would be better off if they used the freakin' clapper from TV.

We recently opened a subdivison of our company that offers a product that may interest your client. Although we tend to sell the product as one, email or call us explaining your situation and I would think we could work something out offering just the furniture.

Welcome Matt. Nice packaged product. Do you have a local cabinet shop make the cabinets?

Where_oh_Where,

Thanks for the welcome and comment. I'm glad you like our product. :) I will, however, correct you on my name. I'm Eric. Matt is the president of RMS and n|vision as you've read, however I handle all design, programming, and "technical" related support. I should probably have introduced myself since we were added to integrationpros a few weeks ago.

To answer your question, we do have a custom cabinet shop onsite as well as a construction company. Our n|vision series cabinets are not manufactured by them as turn around time would be too long. We have several large furniture manufacturers we're working with on the n|vision cabinetry who we're quite happy with.

We sell a cabinet that has a motorized lift for plasmas. They state that it will fit plasmas between 42 and 50". It is made by a company named Encore. We buy it from 21st Century Distributors in NC.

The console is very nice and looks great.

The cost is a little more than $2,000.00. This is the link to their website:

This is a link to the page for the console:

I am not sure that would work very well with a deep receiver in the cabinet. I mean How do you fit a plasma 4"to 5" deep BEHIND a receiver that may be 20-22 inches deep and still have room for cables and a back and front panel?
The overall depth listed on the cabinet is 24"

I think a basic receiver woulod be fine, but a large stereo receiver or large DVD changer would be out of the question.

You are right about the depth of the Encore console. It can fit a DVD, CATV or satellite box in it but it will not fit a full size AV receiver in it. We don't sell Bose but one could fit a Bose reciever and the Left, Right and Center speakers in it.

Just a thought,

Dave

A little bumperoo.

Has anyone else worked with Electro-Kinetics? I'm curious as to the loudness of their lifts. We've used Auton in the past for a few CRT's and 32/37" Sony Plasmas (back in the day!) and they were obnoxiously loud. Have things improved?

Also check the futrute automation products. It is a U.K brand.Thay are quite expensive but very reliable and as silent as they can be.
