    Greenlee DM-20 Multimeter

9 Comments by Kelly Published on 11-08-2008 06:53 PM
My old multimeter had been dropped so many times it finally gave up the ghost, even though it wasn't used all that often over the last 20 years, so I figured I'd just buy some fairly cheap (read that as less functions) unit to get by.

Went to Lowe's to oick up some supplies for a job and while there I bought this Greenlee Dm-20 for something like $20.00 or so.

    A complete waste of money...

This Chinese POS reads a 120v outlet at 170v. Sometimes. Sometimes it reads 165v, sometimes it reads 185v. And I've proven this by using what was left of the old Gardner-Bender meter, so i know this POS is no good.

As an added insult I'll prbably suffer lead poisoning from using that Geelee POS.....

    Re: Greenlee DM-20 Multimeter

I have been using the following lately. We keep it on the truck rather than my nice expensive one. It has been very accurate so far when I've tested it against my expensive meter.

I placed an order of like $75 with the company and they sent me the meter for free.

For 16 digits and an expiration date there isn't anything I can't do.

My old Simpson 260 meter just kicked it.
Had it since I was a kid.

I guess you get what you pay for

I never leave home without my Fluke 179.

My 18 year old Fluke 23 has been retired to home use.
It still works but the 179 has a lighted display

When I need to troubleshoot something,I want EXACT measurements.
Second guessing if my meter is correct is not an option.

Just get a Fluke and be done with it.

Still have a model 12 at home and in the truck that I used to use in the A/V repair days. Simple and always works.

    Get the Fluke Kelly.
It's all I've ever used and has never let me down. Still have my first Fluke from 15+ years ago, still works great and is still accurate (Fluke 79). I got a Fluke 179 for $266 last year and it is great.

You can get a Fluke 110 for $95 these days - Auto ranging, frequency, capacitance.

Or for a little more: You can get a Fluke 115 for $139.99 that adds amperage, backlit, true RMS, etc... (well worth it).

As my dad told me "if it's accurate it's a Fluke"
